Anchorage ESL Lead Instructor

Position Summary: This position oversees the ESL program and teaches some ESL classes within the Adult Basic Education program under the supervision of the regional director. This is a full-time position Monday through Friday.

• Knowledgeable about Adult Basic Education
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching ESL preferably in Adult Education or related field
• Ability to teach multiple levels of ESL
• Ability to use good judgment to make sound decisions on complex issues
• Ability to problem solve
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Ability to organize and prioritize work
• Ability to coordinate simultaneous tasks, follow-up on details
• Ability to supervise staff
• Ability to train staff
• Ability to use technology such as databases for administrative purposes
• Ability to use data to improve programs and instruction
• Ability to use technology to deliver instruction
• Ability to track student progress
• Ability to implement new teaching strategies
• Ability to motivate students
• Work with Anchorage ABE Director to
o Schedule classes for ESL
o Supervise personnel within the ESL department
o Manage intake, including BEST testing, for ESL students
• Perform quality assurance within ESL program for intake-forms, pre and post-testing, and instruction
• Provide and ensure ongoing training of ESL instructors
• Keep and submit timely and accurate attendance records
• Submit intake forms and pre-test results to the director
• Submit a final report at the end of each class that includes pre and post-test results, attendance summary, and a summary of the class.
• Administer the BEST test as a post-test near the end of the class session or when a student has attended a minimum of 40 hours of instruction
