Have you been told that your child is eligible for free tutoring under SES? SES stands for Supplementary Education Services. Students who need extra help with reading skills and who attend eligible schools in Anchorage may qualify for Nine Star’s excellent after school tutoring program.

NINE STAR ACHIEVERS

 Tutors are certified teachers.

 Five months of after-school tutoring.

 We use Achieve3000, a web-based literacy program which helps students increase vocabulary and reading comprehension.

 We also use SBA Achiever! (SBA stands for Standards Based Assessment) FOR READING.

 Both computer programs have been proven effective by extensive research.

 Both computer programs are aligned with the Alaska state education standards.

 Pretests and ongoing assessments help us to find your child(ren)’s weaknesses and teach lessons to help your children improve standardized test scores.

 We find your child(ren)’s strengths and teach them strategies for success in their regular classrooms.

 Help with homework.

 Healthy snack and prizes for participation.

 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

 Students who are enrolled in designated schools in the Anchorage School District.

 Students in second grade through high school.

 Students who are eligible for free and reduced lunches.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS NOT ELIGIBLE?

 Parents may be able to make arrangements to have their child(ren) tutored for a fee.

WHEN WILL THE TUTORING TAKE PLACE?

 Twice per week.

 Right after school.

 As an added bonus, our students can logon to Achieve3000 and SBA Achiever anywhere they have internet access.

WHERE WILL NINE STAR ACHIEVERS BE TUTORED?

 Tutoring may take place in a computer lab at your child(ren)’s school, depending on the number of students who enroll.

 Tutoring sessions at your child’s school also depends on whether or not ASD allows Nine Star to rent a computer lab after school.

 Tutoring may take place at a Nine Star site off school grounds.

WILL NINE STAR PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION FOR MY CHILD(REN)?

 NO. We’re sorry, but Nine Star’s company policy forbids employees to transport clients. This includes students.

 Parents will be responsible for transportation.
